For a stroke victim, a few minutes can mean the difference between
life and death or permanent brain damage. That's why it's important to
act quickly when someone is showing signs of a stroke. The acronym FAST
is a simple way to remember and recognize the warning signs of stroke.
F stands for face; ask the person to smile. Is one side of their face
drooping or numb? A is for arm weakness; ask them to raise both arms.
Does one drift down? S stands for speech; ask them to repeat a simple
sentence. Is their speech slurred or strange? And T is for Time; if
you observe any of these signs, call 911 immediately.
