Beware of Belly Fat
Where you carry your weight may increase your risk of both cancer and heart disease, according to a recent study. People with more visceral fat (deep belly fat that surrounds internal organs) had a higher risk than people with the same BMI (body mass index) but whose fat was in other areas such as hips and thighs. Researchers studied about 3,000 people, average age 50. Those with larger belly fat deposits had a 44% increased risk of cancer than those who had less belly fat. Brisk walking and cutting back on sugary foods (especially drinks) can help shrink your waist.
