CASHEWS HELP LOWER CHOLESTEROL

A new study suggests eating cashews may help improve blood cholesterol levels. The small study looked at healthy people with elevated LDL (bad) cholesterol. Participants ate a typical American diet adding either 1 to 2 ounces of cashews or an equal amount of potato chips. After 4 weeks, they exchanged diets for the next 4 weeks. When people ate the cashews, they reduced their total cholesterol by 4% and their LDL by 5%. No changes occurred when they ate the chips. Cashews are high in monounsaturated fats and plant sterols. Nuts are high in calories, so eat them in place of less-healthy foods and not as additional calories in your diet.
