Clutter and Depression

In a new UCLA study, the data suggests that clutter can make one feel depressed.  It has a profound effect on mood and self-esteem, but more so in women than men.  Researchers found a link between household clutter and higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol; the more stuff, the more stress women felt.  Tips to declutter; take 5 minutes each hour to put away five things.  Adopt a "shiny sink" policy; clear dishes from sink and counter nightly.  Utilize out-of-the-way storage spaces such as under stairs.  Have a designated spot for things.  Fill a box with items you don't think you use.  Seal the box, and put it in a closet.  If you haven't opened in a year, donate it.
