CYCLING CUTS CANCER RISK

Posted: 10.18.2017

Several previous studies have reported associations between cycling and lower heart disease risk. New research now confirms that cycling may also lower the risk of cancer. The study tracked data on 264,000 people regarding their commute to work, following them for five years. Researchers found that those who cycled to work had a 45% lower risk of cancer and a 46% lower risk of heart disease compared to those with a "non-active commute." Walking to work was also linked with a lower risk of heart disease but not cancer. Walkers typically commuted 6 miles a week, whereas cyclers averaged 30 miles.
