EXERCISE: HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?

Any amount of exercise is beneficial and better than none. Experts recommend 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise. A new study that examined the habits of about 600,000 people found that those who didn't exercise at all had the highest risk of early death during the 14-year study period. Those who exercised some but did not meet the recommended goal lowered their risk by 20%. People who met the suggested amount of 150 minutes per week enjoyed a 31% reduced risk. The biggest benefit came for those who did 3 times the standard or 450 minutes per week; their risk was 39% lower and walking was their preferred exercise.
