EXERCISE MAY RELIEVE HAND PAIN

For those with osteoarthritis of the hand, hand exercises may offer some symptom relief, according to recent research. In the study, women with hand osteoarthritis who did hand exercises three times a week experienced a reduction in pain along with improved grip strength and hand function. Exercises included squeezing a rubber ball, rolling fingers into a fist and spreading fingers apart as wide as possible. Exercise strengthens muscles around the joints, increases circulation of the synovial fluid, increases oxygen and nutrient supply, and stimulates the process that clears cell debris from joints.
