Exercise May Ward Off Depression

According to two recent reviews, exercise may help reduce depression symptoms and may even prevent it entirely.  The first review found exercise to be comparable to some medications or psychological therapy in reducing symptoms of depression.  Experts think it helps by affecting the neurotransmitters in the the brain that influence mood.  Excercise also helps create a sense of accomplishment and control.  It can provide a distraction from anxities.  The second review also discovered that people who get even just low levels of exercise on a regular basis have a lower risk of ever developing depression.
