FRUITS & VEGETABLES LOWER PAD RISK

Posted: 01.31.2018
If you currently smoke or are a former smoker, eating more fruits and vegetables may help lower your risk of peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD is a narrowing of the blood vessels caused by a build-up of plaque, and reduces blood flow to the limbs. This can cause leg pain, especially when walking or exercising. In a recent study of 3 million people, those who ate at least 3 servings a day of produce were about 20% less likely to develop PAD compared to those who ate little produce. This link was only seen in current or former smokers. Smoking is a risk factor for PAD.
