GOOD FOR HEART = GOOD FOR BRAIN

Posted: 03.15.2018
Reducing your number of cardiovascular risk factors in mid-life may help lower the risk of dementia. These risk factors include smoking, hypertension, obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol. A recent study followed 322 adults without dementia for 25 years. Researchers found that people who were obese in mid-life were twice as likely to have higher levels of Alzheimer's-related beta amyloid plaques later in life. If a person had two or more risk factors, they had triple the risk of elevated plaques. This evidence linking vascular health to dementia suggests that we can lower our risk if we control blood pressure, don't smoke, eat better, lose excess weight and stay active.
