Keep Your Brain Sharp

Everyday activities that occupy and stimulate your mind may help slow or prevent mental decline, according to a new study by Mayo.  Researchers discovered that simple yet intellectually engaging activities such as reading, games, computer use and doing crafts (knitting, quilting or other forms of handiwork) were associated with a 30 to 50% drop in the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment.  Experts theorize that these kinds of activities may help to keep brain nerve connections intact and may even create new ones.  They may also help reduce stress and have benefits akin to those of meditation.
