Mediterranean Diet and Slimmer Kids
A new study suggests that children who eat a Mediterranean-style diet may have a reduced risk of being overweight or obese when compared to other kids. Researchers analyzed the eating habits of 9,000 children from different countries and found that those who followed a diet rich in fish, nuts, vegetables, fruits and grains were 15% less likely to be overweight or obese compared to their peers who didn't. These findings were true regardless of age, sex, wealth or country of origin. The study is preliminary, but experts say, considering its potential beneficial effects, it could be a useful strategy in preventing childhood obesity.
