Nuts for Longevity
Eating nuts may help reduce the risk of dying from heart disease and cancer. A new study concluded that people who ate one or more servings (about 1/4 cup) a day of peanuts or other nuts reduced their risk of dying by 20% compared to those who ate none. People who ate 2-6 servings a week had a 15% lower risk, and those who ate nuts less than once a week had a 7% lower risk. The nut-eaters were also leaner, more likely to take a multi-vitamin and exercise, and less likely to smoke, and they ate more produce. Even when these factors were controlled for, nut consumption was still linked to longevity.
