Don't smoke; smoking may increase the risk of dementia by 41%, Treat depression; studies suggest that depression can negatively impact stress hormones, which may alter the structure of the brain. Stay connected; being socially isolated can lead to depression. Diabetes, hypertension and obesity raise the risk of dementia. Take your medications as prescribed and eat a healthy diet to lose extra pounds.
