Rx FOR MIND AND MOOD
A recent small study confirmed that physical activity can greatly affect mood and counter depression. Researchers enlisted young adults, 18-35 years old, who exercised regularly 150 minutes a week before the study began. They then asked some to stop exercising for one week and to limit walking, while the control group continued their usual regimen. Participants were evaluated psychologically both before and after the study. Those who became sedentary for even just seven days experienced negative effects on their mood and level of depression. However, when they resumed their routine for a week, things went back to normal.
