SINGING MAY BOOST IMMUNE SYSTEM

Posted: 07.13.2016
THIS WEEK'S HEALTH TIP -- SINGING MAY BOOST IMMUNE SYSTEM. Singing in a choir may help boost your body's ability to fight off illness and serious diseases, according to a new study. Researchers tested the saliva of 193 choir members and found that after one hour of singing there were significant reductions in stress hormones such as cortisol, and increases in cytokines, proteins of the immune system that help fight illness. Previous studies have also shown that singing improves mood, releases the feel-good hormones dopamine and oxytocin, increases a sense of well-being and belonging, and even improves symptoms of depression, Parkinson's and lung disease.
